Day 49
I'm pretty sure I have swine flu so no real update for day 49. Went to school. Felt very very ill. Came home after only 2 lessons. Slept until 21:00. Woke long enough to skype briefly and watch Gossip Girl and then back to sleep until the following morning. Sorry there's nothing else to talk about. I was sick :(

Day 48
After completing my video last night I watched a little more tv and ended up staying up way too late and not getting up until much later than I would have liked. Dragged myself outta bed, showered, did some laundry and then headed to school. Saw some Sumo wrestlers in Warabi station which was kinda cool and rather random. I know there's a tournement on at the moment but I have no idea why they'd be in Warabi of all places, well, unless they live there but surely, I'd have spotted guys that big before. O.o
School was pretty sucky today. I'm getting a bit bored of it now to be honest. The temptation to just bunk off and go somewhere interesting is very strong but then I have paid for it so I should go. Plus if I miss a day, it just makes the next day even harder. I just wish my memory were better because I seem to forget everything so quickly. Doesnt help I'm still getting headaches :( Had a giggle during one break drawing pictures on the white board...mostly of Nino. I wish I had a picture of my evil rabbit but the Nino bitch wiped it off before I got my camera.
After class, a few of us went to Lawsons to try to buy tickets for the Ghibli Museum. Alas, they're all sold out for the next 2 weekends, and the 2 weekends after that we are going to Korea and camping so there'll be no chance to go unless we miss a day of school. Only I liked that idea so I guess we wont go, at least not as a group.
Katharina was going in the other direction so Rosanna, Choi and myself headed back to the station. Found a candy store so I had to go in. They had some odd stuff in there like the spicy chocolate loops in the picture below. Found Kit Kat Daigaku Imo which translates as "university potato". No idea where that name comes from but daigaku imo is caramelised sweet potato. It was pretty good.
Rosanna and I left Choi at the station as he lives in Shin Okubo and we don't. We decided today would be a good day to finally try out Mos Burger. There's one right next to Warabi station so it's benri and oishi (convienient and tasty). They have a special on at the moment...doughnut burger. Basically a burger with a hole in it. Rosanna had one of these and I'm pretty sure it's the messiest burger in the world though she said it was pretty good. I don't eat meat so I passed on the doughnut burger and got an ebi one instead. It was pretty tasty. Much better than anything McDonalds can pump out. The chips too. Piping hot and very yummy. I got a melon soda with my food, because it was green and the pretty colour called to me. Overall, the best fast food I've ever had and at a reasonable price. I paid 670yen for a burger, chips and soda which is about £4.50. Not that expensive I guess. I'd give the place an 8.5 outta 10. We're gonna try Freshness Burger next week. I hope it's as good as Mos Burger :)

Day 47
Day 47 was a slow day. Didn't do anything of any real importance. Went to school. Ate onigiri. Had a kanji test. Learned some new words. Talked about Korea. Came home.
Was still very happy about my secret news from home :) but I'll tell you about that another time.
Watched Desperate Housewives. Did my homework. Talked on Skype. A quiet day.
The only significant activity worth mentioning is the the video I made to summarize the first half of my trip here. Watch and enjoy!

Day 46
Today begins the second half of my time here in Japan so to start things off with a bang I visited the Sanja Matsuri in Asakusa.
I'm getting a little fed up of missing half the day because all my friends here like to stay up late and therefore sleep late too. We never get to things when they open so today, for once, I decided to go early. Katharina also liked the idea of an early start so I arranged to meet her at 10:00 and everyone else at 13:00 so they could recover from whatever they were doing the night before.
As it turns out I was horribly late. I never seem to judge the times on the Keihen Tohoku line very well and arrived at Asakusa 15 minutes late and then couldn't find Katharina so ran about like a fool. I always have trouble finding this girl!! On this occasion, I spotted the black coat and matching boots of my German friend in the distance so all was well.
The Sanja Matsuri is a huge festival in Asakusa every year (or is it every other year...I don't remember). It's held on the third Sunday of May and the two preceeding days. On the Friday they have a parade but we had school so we couldn't attend. On the Saturday and Sunday, the three shrines are carried from temple to temple for blessings from 06:00 to 20:00. While we walked around we would see this little gold thing bobbing about in the distance as it went past. Then another one would come in the opposite direction. And of course, not forgetting, half the men carrying these things about weren't wearing trousers. Traditional festival wear for men calls for loin cloth type attire rather than pants whatever your shape or age. Nice...
Asakusa is normally a busy place anyway but today it was mental. But along with the millions of people, there were a ton of extra food stalls. We had a great time walking about trying to decide what we wanted to eat when everyone else arrived. Picked up a sesame bun thing while we waited which was om nom nom^^
By 12:00 my legs were getting tired so I suggested we walk back up to meet the rest of the people, and maybe buy a souviner along the way. We went for Chinese new year related goods, Katharina getting a snake charm and me a chicken. Sorry, I don't have a picture as I haven't unwrapped it yet.
So we went to the meeting spot and waited. We made a bet who would arrive in which order and I won round 1 by picking Jonna. She arrived maybe 5 minutes early. And so we waited...and waited........eventually at 13:25 we decided that enough was enough and we would give up at 13:30. Luckily Dani and Alberto arrived 2 minutes later. They informed us that Ken was with Nana so was unlikely to come and the train that Nino would come on was delayed due to what we think was a suicide. Rosanna, we had no idea where she was. Tried calling but got no answer. And so it was just the five of us.
We fought our way through the crowd and had a look at the fun stuff that was for sale. Then we got down to the food part where we all bought a bunch of random things to eat. I had Pikachu cakes, Katharina had Takoyaki with quail eggs, Dani had the biggest burger in the world, and Alberto a giant okonomiayki type thing. Jonna was still hung over so she passed on eating. Had a laugh talking about random things with the boys. Made a bet with Alberto that if he could finish his okonomiyaki of doom I would catch a pigeon for him. Yeah, strange bet but that's what he wanted as a prize.
At 16:00 Ken called to say he was on the train coming to us. His girlfriend had just gone to work so with nothing to do he thought he'd turn up 3 hours late. Unfortunatly for him, we were all knackered. Katharina and I had been there for 6 hours already, and the rest were all suffering from alcohol related issues. The girls went home but I couldn't let Ken come all the way to Asakusa and have us all leave so I decided to stay there with him for an hour or so. The Spaniards stayed too. We looked at t-shirts and lolled at ken buying ninja shoes. Seriously, those things look mega uncomfortable. By this point I couldn't take it anymore and had to head home. It was a fun day, though after a very long weekend, exhausting :(

Day 45
Day 45....Saturday! After crashing at Jonna's for the night, Rosanna and I made our way home from Yoyogi at around 08:30. We got back to Warabi about an hour later leaving us just enough time to get washed and changed and back to Shin Okubo in time to meet Katharina for the Design Festa. By the time we were meant to leave however, Jonna had mailed me to say she was still drunk and therefore not coming, and Rosanna wasn't ready in time so she also wasn't coming. Just Katharina and I for the day.
I left Warabi quite late myself but managed to make good connections on the train and arrive 15 minutes early. No problem, Katharina is always early. Today however, she was early so she decided to walk from Shinjuku which would allow her to arrived exactly on time. Typical huh? While I was waiting I chatted with a Christian girl who wanted me to come to her gospel concert on Sunday. I said we had the Sanja Matsuri so she invited me next week instead. Again, I said I'd have to check with friends but I think we'll be in Hakone so it's unlikely we'll make it. Not that I'm particularly interested in gospel but if there's nothing else to do then it can't hurt to go right? It would make her feel better I guess.
So I meet with Katharina and we head to Shimbashi to go to Odaiba. We were going to walk the bridge but we didn't think to check how you get on the bridge. So we walked for a bit, decided he bridge plan was a failure and that we would simply walk back instead. Once in Odaiba we head straight for the Design Festa as it's already nearly 13:00. It's a nice walk along there. It's by the sea so there's a nice breeze and while it is busy, it's no where near as busy as other parts of Tokyo like Shinjuku.
The Design Festa was pretty so so I guess. There were soooooooo many people selling or displaying things. As usual, all my money went on food but it was good food. Had a great fresh melon pan and some cheese filled korean bread pancake thing. Om nom nom! There were some pretty nice things being sold, many of which I could have bought but money is tight so I decided against it plus do I really need a spider necklace made of wire? We watched a few of the live performances that were going on there on the 2 stages. Witnessed what can only be described as the worst magician in the history of the world ever with a smiliarly bad taste in music. Also caught a bit of live music from an instrumental band that I forgot the name of who were quite good, and a quick glimpse of a fashion show where people crawled across the floor O.o
We left there and headed to the Fuju TV building to look for Think Twice t-shirts for Rosanna but they didn't have them. Bought a funky frog umbrella ready for the rainy season and laughed at the strange things they had there, especially the eye man and "You knock on a jumping door". Saw some Hey Hey Hey t-shirts which I'll probably go back and buy before I leave.
I still had the need for shopping so we went to Decks and wandered about the wierd floor. Bought some random food things from the sweet shop. It's great there because you can buy small samples of things for 10-50 yen. If you don't like it your money isn't wasted. Found the most awesome "hand"bag which I didn't buy though I'm regretting it now. If it's there when I get back I'll buy it. I didn't even get a picture :(
Finally it was time for home. We were going to find the bridge but both of us were tired so the train won again :( Next time I'm walking over that damn bridge!!
And so I have reached the half way point. While there have been highs and lows I have enjoyed it so far. Let's hope the next 45 days will be even more fun^^

Day 44
Time for another late blog entry. Keeping up with this thing is just too hard :( But I shall perservere and I will not miss a day! No way hose!
Seeeeeewwwww, Friday. I go to school, as always, and am greeted by a kanji related test which was great as I hadn't looked at them since the day before. Maybe I cheated a little but only for the stuff I couldn't remember ^_~ We then did some more "ga" stuff and learned a few new words. Nothing particularly useful, mostly just doing exercises from the book. Which reminds me, I have homework for Monday...crap! Friday was also the last day for Alvaro in school. He's going back to Spain in a week. The teacher gave him his certificate at the end and he gave a little speech. Oh and there was an American dude in class today. Don't know if he's staying long term. We'll see if he's there on Monday.
After class the girls were meant to be going to a host club. Katharina decided she wasn't going to come and the Koreans kept telling us how expensive it would be so we ended up going to that cheap food place in Shinjuku again. It's ok for everyone else there but there's only 1 thing on the menu that I can eat so it's not so good for me. When they eat there twice a week it gets boring eating the same bowl of cold noodles. I think there were like 13 of us altogether. Most people had food, Jonna, Rosanna and I didn't really bother. Got some pictures taken with ooki kami boys which I'll need Nino to send to me sometime.
The next stop was a bar. Ken was only staying a little while so we decided to get a drink before we went to our host place. Ended up in a rock bar which was pretty cool. I say rock but I mean classic oldies rock. The drinks were a little pricy maybe but it's Tokyo so it's always expensive here. The cool part was we could request the music so we had a little Guns N Roses, ACDC, Led Zeppelin and a bit of James Brown :) Good place^^
When we left there we had a little trouble deciding where to go. Ken went to meet his girlfriend. Katharina was trying to go to Roppongi. Jonna couldn't decided. Rosanna wanted a host bar. The others wanted to go home. In the end, after talking to a guy who'd been living in LA, we ended up all going to seperate places and I remained with Jonna and Rosanna. The LA guy, who's name I've forgotten, told us he knew a ladies only place we could go. 1000 yen all you can drink for 2 hours. Sounds good...let's go!
A guy shows us the way there. We walk in and are greeted by the cheers of host boys! WHAT! I didn't know we were coming here. Jonna said it was a bar!! So we're in now anyway so we're staying. It was actually only 1000yen for 2 hours which is a pretty good deal. We got to speak some Japanese to these guys. I think Jonna and I spent most of the time laughing. Ooki kami!! Doshite?!?! lulz
Here's where it get's troublesome. Rosanna and I were drinking Shochu (which I guess is a bit like vodka) with a mixer. Jonna, unbeknown to me, was drinking it straight. After about an hour in there talking to about 9 or 10 of these guys we realise what she's drinking and maybe she's had a bit too much. So in our attempts to get her up and out the door she hits a glass of shochu all over one of the guys (more lulz if you ask me). That was the least of the problems. We then had to get her home. We were never going to get the train but we always knew we could stay at her place....wherever that was. Trying to get information out of her led us all over the place. And she destroyed a fence too...oops. Eventually, a guy who said he was a teacher helped us out. He spotted Jonna sprawled across the floor while we were trying to get hold of Jonna's room mate. So he took us to the taxi place and explained to the driver where we wanted to go. Crazy, man! It was crazy!

Day 43
Ah...day 43...how fun and strange and boring you were...
Ok, so first I didn't sleep well again. I'm not sure why. I've been getting some pretty bad headaches the last few days. I don't know if it's the result or cause of the restless sleep, maybe a bit of both. I've gotten quite used to being headache free for the last 40 days or so so now for them to come back with a vengence is a big pain in the ass. I'm armed with a shit load of paracetamol however so I guess I'll survive.
Once I'd popped my first pills of the day I made my way to school, picking up some strange "French" fanta on the way. I forgot to take a picture...baka! I don't really want to buy it again just for a picture as it was pretty grim. I guess they have the same deal with Fanta and Pocky and a bunch of other things that they do with Kit Kat. Shame I didn't start the Fanta challenge when I got here. Maybe next time.
School was ok today. It was mostly about the partical "ga" so it was pretty easy stuff. Played a funish game where we wrote sentences about ourselves and the class had to guess who wrote which page. My sentences were as follows....
After class most of us went for pizza at the same Italian place as last time. First though Jonna and I had to go to the Family Mart to pay for our bus tickets. After telling people 5 times what was happening, we left them at school and said we'd see them at the restaurant in 10 minutes. Turns out it was pretty easy and quick to make the payment so we were early. While we were waiting we realised that we didn't have change to pay for dinner so we went back to the Family Mart to get some. We both had 10,000 yen notes which is around £70-75 (depending on the exchange rate). Jonna picked a chocolate which was 20 yen to make her chain but I had to go one better and I bought the thing below for a massive 10 yen. That's about 7p :) The guys behind the till were not amused. I bet they loved it when John and Magnus turned up an hour later and did the same thing haha!
So for dinner today it was pizza. Not the greatest pizza in the world and pretty small but nice all the same. Some of the boys on the other table (we were spilt as there were about 16 of us) ordered 3 lots of food. I don't know how they do it. I was sat by Ho Jyun (sorry spelling), Jonna, Alvaro (though he was talking with his fellow Spaniards) and one of the new additions to our class, Mun Yee of Malaysia. She's pretty cool and she liked the idea of the host club so she'll be joining us tomorrow night for our girls night out^^ She also joined in the "waving" game with Jonna and I which was pretty funny. Woo Magnus!
I wanted to go shopping after we were done eating but it's blowing a gale out there and I didn't bring a jacket today so I decided not to bother. Maybe I'll go tomorrow morning but knowing me, I won't get out of bed in time. I think my electric blue top will be fine. And no, Ho Jyun, I'm not wearing it to class :p
I now have the problem of trying to decide what the theme song for my first 45 days in Japan will be. Nino makes these cool videos so I want to do one too. It looks fun. But I need a song that would sum up my time here or the people or both or something. Gonna do some thinking and maybe practice some kanji...oh yeah we finally started kanji today. Hurrah! It's awesome :) Though not as awesome as this picture that the favoloso Nino-san drew in class today. It's some of the cool people in class :) See if you can work out which one is me...
And oh yeah again....Dani stole the cheese...again....
- I like Yamapi
- I don't like meat (they all guessed me at this point)
- I am good at cooking
- I'm not so good at sports
- I understand a little Welsh
- I don't understand Korean
- I have French Fanta (see above)
- I don't have a snake
